Changes and Development to Online Poker
Online poker is somthing which will always need to change and evolve I feel, partly because it’s primary aim is to mimic the whole enjoyment of a real game as much as possible. This aim is perhaps impossible, but recent changes in online play have certainly brought the online experience closer to the genuine article.
Moving avatars are of course an obvious change which has been implemented successfully, simple things such as allowing other players to be aware of when someone checks their cards are all advances forward too.
In terms of the future of poker and where it goes from here, it is not unreasonable to have a vast list of anecdotes you could choose to say to your opponent whilst they are decision making, or just in general play. Further forward along the same lines perhaps we could literally talk to our opponents at the virtual tables, whilst wearing headsets.
Similarly, a games console springs to mind which includes physical movement of the hands conveying to actual movement within the game world. The future could perhaps have some of these ideas in store for online players, and a combination of others, but the aim will always be to create the most realistic and enjoyable place to play as possible.
I think the development of online poker play should be in the forefront of many minds within the business. This I feel, is because there are a great many different poker sites online these days, and the market is looking rather flooded with options for the online poker player. Sites offering poker play are going to have to do more with the passing years, to persuade players that their site will offer somthing special, and unique.
Why play at Poker Stars
Pokerstars has long been held in the highest regard when it comes to online poker sites. There are a variety of reasons for this. I must say on a personal note that Pokerstars is certainly in my top three sites and I have always enjoyed playing there.

The track record of Pokerstars on the safety of it’s transactions is impeccable. Added to this is the fact that it offers support in different forms which is always very helpful.
Many players these days like a site with lots of poor and unskilled players, I personally don’t find that Pokerstars falls into this category, as most players seem to be at least competent and know what they are doing. This provides a challenging and enjoyable game for the type of player that really wants to test themselves.
I also like the layout of the site, the lobby design of which was recently updated. Pokerstars has some of the finest professionals around on it’s team, and for good reason too. There are special promotions and tournaments often running, where a player gets the chance to play against one of these pros, which is an exciting prospect for any players good enough to win this prize.
I also think the card design and option to choose your own avatar is good and the whole site generally looks professionally done. There is a great variety of games on offer to play at Pokerstars too, and this is one of my favourite things about the site. Pokerstars show a lot of attention to detail in making their site one of the best around, and it shows in every aspect.
Anything you like about Ladbrokes Poker
Ladbrokes is a tried and trusted betting company which has been around for many years. This immediately puts your mind at rest about any reliability issues or complications when it comes to depositing and withdrawing onsite.

Aside from this important aspect, there is certainly a feeling from my point of view that ladbrokes are making some excellent value tournaments and promotions available to it’s customers.
Currently running are satellites to the ‘Poker Million’ tournament, with the possibility to start from a freeroll and make it to the event. Also on offer are other satellites to major events such as the WSOP, which I think is a must for any site looking to cement their names in the top names of the industry. Games offered at ladbrokes are pretty standard with Omaha, Stud, and Holdem, but that is enough to keep most players content.
Ladbrokes is also renowned for having a great community spirit, and ongoing tournament leaderboard promotions, help to create a friendly, competitive atmosphere. Player traffic is also amongst the highest you will find online, so finding the right table for your needs should never prove to be a problem.
I also like the graphics at the tables on Ladbrokes, and the lobby is ok too, although it could perhaps be a little bit easier to find your way around. Overall though I have to say that I like Ladbrokes poker. Too often I think that companies whose main income is from other betting, neglect the poker branch of their operations somwhat, but I don’t find that to be the case at Ladbrokes.
Poker Sites That Have Sharks
Each and every poker site is likely to attract different players of differing skill levels. Those sites which are openly touted as being ‘full of fish’ are many, and to be honest any site which is spoken of in such a way is likely to attract stronger players and thus end up not being full of ‘fish’. In my opnion, every site has it’s weaker players and it’s stronger players, you just have to work with whichever players happen to be seated at your table at the time.

If you have a lot of ’sharks’ at your table, then personally I would see this as the chance to have a really good game of poker and am happy to play at that sort of table. If you are going around sites trying to avoid sharks and look for ‘fish’, then in my opinion, you must be a bit of a fish to be scared of playing against decent players in the first place.
From my personal experience, you are likely to find a lot of players at Pokerstars that know what they are doing. I haven’t found quite so many reckless players there as other sites, and for me that’s a good thing. Full Tilt also has some good players to test yourself against, although as I said earlier, you will find a mix of players at any site.
On any site you find, you will also be more likely to find sharks at high stakes tables than low stakes too, and certainly more in live play than online. With this in mind, if you want to find some good players to play against, avoid the low stakes tables, and vice versa if you wish to avoid strong players.
fulltiltpoker.com – Is Online Poker Legal in the US
The following is my perception of how the legal situation stands with online gambling in the U.S.

As you might know, different states in the U.S often seem to have slightly different rules to others, but when it comes to gambling and the recent exclusion of players from most poker sites, this law, is encompassed by what is called a federal law. This means it is a law across the country and does not change in certain states.
This law decrees, that no gaming company is allowed to accept payment from U.S players in the form of depositing transactions. The act of playing poker, and even playing poker for money online as I understand it, is not illegal. But if you think about it, barring players from making cash depositis onto a gambling site effectively does prevent them from playing altogether. Games which are designated as games of skill are exempt from this ruling. With this in mind, the argument was ignited as to whether poker is predominantly a game of luck or skill. Basically, to make poker exempt from the ruling, lawyers would have to prove that the game of poker was over 50% skill based, and this is no easy task. The folks in the U.S who made these laws banning American players from depositing money, of course probably know very little about poker. And just like everyone else who knows very little of poker, they assume it is mostly a game of luck.
Poker players such as myself know that the game is certainly a mixture of the two, and you could easily argue that the game is slightly more skill, than luck based. The problem is, it is not fellow poker players who are trying to be convinced of this, and that makes the situation very difficult indeed. In short, online poker in the U.S appears to be legal, but depositing any money on such sites, is not.
pokerstars.com – My Favorite Poker Site and Why
Personally, my favourite poker site would have to be Pokerstars. The primary reasoning’s behind this are firstly, the many different games on offer.

I know that not every site can manage to offer such games because their traffic flow is not good enough to be able to fill out tables and tournaments in lesser known games. However, due to Pokerstars being such an established name in the industry they manage to offer most of the games that any player would want to play. The fact that they offer Five Card Draw is a big plus point for me too, because I personally happen to do very well at that game.
Other than the variety, there are plenty of ongoing promotions which aren’t all aimed at the high rollers. The bonuses are good, and their loyalty points scheme works well. Customer support is very good, and I like the graphics and card designs too.
Pokerstars has an exceptional team of poker players sponsored by, and playing on it’s site. You can even go to the lobby and select ‘find a pro’ and you will be shown a list of which of their pros are online and where they are playing.
Other than the good value tournaments and the aforementioned points, the reputation of Pokerstars precedes them and they offer satellites to all the top land based tournaments every year.
Some sites have their own shining good points or are very pleasing to the eye, but in terms of all round best sites, Pokerstars tops the others in my opinion. There are other sites that I think come close to Pokerstars, and a great game of poker can be had at many of these other sites, but for me, Pokerstars is my favourite.
pokeroom.com – Best Online Poker Software
Poker software is something that seems to have been largely unchanged until recently. There have always been sites with similar avatars and lobbies set out in the same formats, and I must say that in terms of lobby layouts, and buttons for raising whilst at the table, all this should remain unchanged as long as it works well. The one thing that can always change though is the visual aspect of poker.

Whilst it is not unpleasant to sit and play with basic graphics, and a good game of poker can be enjoyed, recent changes in software have brought somthing extra to online play. This software is of course mostly aimed at those who have not got the much older models of computer, and it does take up some extra space, but what you get in return is well worth it.
I do not personally think that online poker should visually remain as it is on many sites when there is software available to create something far more pleasing to the eye. Sites such as PKR and Ladbrokes have started using newer software to create a much better playing experience.
If however you are not at all impressed with the more realistic and visually pleasing type of poker then of course that is your choice. I am sure there are those out there that will happily sit and play poker with the same old avatars, as long as they are making money.
But overall, I think there are steps forward being made in online poker, and I am sure that over the next five years, there will be further improvements as each site strives to better the other.
Can You Ever Learn Everything in Poker?
In some ways you could say that poker is like any other subject in the world, and that with enough practice you could learn everything there is to know about the game. I don’t feel that in doing so you would become the greatest player in the world, but you would certainly be fairly successful.
But knowledge is only factual. The application of these facts and mathematics is impossible without vast amounts of experience.
The learning of the game in it’s entirety could only done with experience, and I do not think poker is alone in that. Take any sport for instance, and read every book ever written about it, then see if you are of a world class standard the first time you play. You won’t be of course, because some things cannot simply be learned, they must be moulded and developed with time and effort.
If we are talking about solely absorbing information, then of course you can learn everything there is to know about poker. I have no doubt that it will improve your game greatly, but it will not create your game from scratch and make it unbeatable.
There are some professional players who I think feel they know everything there is to know about the game, and have nothing left to discover or develop in their play.
If we have Texas Holdem in mind, then Phil Hellmuth of course springs to mind as being in this category. But I do not know Phil as a person and so perhaps that is just the way he comes across. I think the worst thing a player could ever do is to assume that they know everything and have nothing left to learn from anybody. If you are always looking to learn more and improve then it stands to reason that you will keep on improving. I think only natural talent determines where that learning curve hits a wall.
Different Types of Tournaments at the World Series and Ladbroke poker
Over the years the number of tournaments at the World Series an Ladbroke poker has gradually expanded, this means that the whole series has at least one tournament dedicated to each variety of poker.
Having such representations for each game and at varying buy in limits at ladbrokepoker, is very good for the game as it gives those who have dedicated years to becoming good at a certain game get the chance to shine on the biggest stage of them all.
Also the different buy in limits gives both the online poker professionals of the game larger buy in games in which the fields will be mostly made up of professionals.
In this instance they do not have to worry about trying to read amateur players who aren’t sure how comparitively strong their hand is and are often completely unpredictable. The exception to this being the Texas Holdem World Championship event where thousands of players enter each year at www.ladbrokepoker.com.
These online poker rank World Championship, large buy in, events in other games, usually attract pro heavy fields and see some of the best poker minds seated with, and battling it out with each other.
The other side of the coin is the many smaller buy in events which offer those players of more modest means their own chance at glory and the possibility to take home a World Series bracelet. Such variety in both games played and buy ins at the World Series at ladbrokepoker.com gives such a great festival of poker each year, and one which really reflects who the finest players are year in and year out.
